A musician for all but the first four years of her life, Chicago harpist Courtney Lawhn Heath has been an active part of Chicago's music scene for over a decade. She has performed with ensembles ranging from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra to the backup band for mariachi king Vicente Fernandez at Chicago's 20,000-seat Allstate Arena. She has also appeared as a harpist in chamber music recitals with many of the most distinguished Chicago musicians, and therefore with some of the finest musicians in the world. Her work as a wedding ceremony musician and background musician has taken her to nearly every suburb of the extended metro Chicago area, and her work as a Classical artist has taken her across the United States.

After many years of success as a full time freelance harpist and harp teacher in Chicago, her love of mentoring students, collaborating with clients, and an avocational interest in science led her to rediscover a childhood passion: medicine. In 2010, Courtney Lawhn Heath began training to become a physician at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Music continues to play a central role in her life, however. She has played the harp for palliative care patients at Chicago’s Stroger Hospital of Cook County and has collaborated with massage therapists in Illinois and Wisconsin to create a healing atmosphere in therapy sessions. As a member of the medical community, she intends to explore the effectiveness of music as a non-pharmacologic intervention for pre- and post-surgical patients and for patients with chronic pain or stress.

Beautiful music,

Expertly performed.
